National Music Associations Partner to Provide Copyright Website

RESTON, VA (July 1, 2004)-MENC: The National Association for Music Education and Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) announce a partnership with the Music Publishers' Association of the United States, the National Association of Schools of Music and the National Music Publishers' Association to provide an online resource for copyright questions.

The website, "The Music Education Copyright Center," offers information about the reproduction, recording, distribution and performance of music and the guidelines that govern these actions. In addition, forms to arrange music and to obtain rights to reprint of music are available to download. Contacts for further questions also are provided.

"The new website is a tool that helps all those teachers who want to follow appropriate copyright procedures by making those procedures easier to understand and implement," says MENC's Executive Director John J. Mahlmann.

Adds MTNA Executive Director Gary L. Ingle, " It is every teacher's responsibility to be aware of the laws governing the duplication and performance of music. This useful tool clarifies the gray areas of copyright law."

Music Teachers National Association is a nonprofit organization of independent and collegiate music teachers committed to furthering the art of music through teaching, performance, composition and scholarly research.
